6-DAY NDUTU CALVING & BIG CAT SAFARI

Exclusive Wildlife Safari Experiences

Itinerary

Overview

On this 6-day safari, you will see the amazing Great Migration! From December to April, millions of wildebeests and zebras move to a beautiful place called Lake Ndutu. This area sits right between the Ngorongoro and Serengeti parks.

If you travel starting in January, you can watch a wonderful sight: the calving season. This is when thousands of baby animals are born every day on the flat grass plains! Because there are so many babies, powerful predators like lions and cheetahs wait nearby, giving you the best chance to see exciting wildlife hunts. In the morning, your private safari guide will pick you up from your hotel in Arusha to begin your journey to Tarangire National Park. You will travel down a smooth, paved road across the beautiful Maasai plains, where you will see colorful Maasai people herding cattle, riding bicycles, and driving donkey carts along the roadside. Tarangire is world-famous for its massive herds of elephants, but it is also home to many other incredible animals. Standing up safely through the open, pop-up roof of your modern safari jeep, you will explore open grasslands, swamps, and the life-giving Tarangire River to spot zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, and tall giraffes. With a little luck, you might even spot lions stalking their prey in the grass or leopards resting high up in the branches of the trees. After a full, exciting day of experiencing the wild sights and sounds of the park, your guide will drive you directly to your comfortable hotel to enjoy a hot dinner and a relaxing overnight stay.

As you drive across the breathtaking Rift Valley landscape, you will see Lake Ndutu, a beautiful saltwater lake that is home to a huge variety of wild animals. Once you arrive and enjoy a delicious lunch, you will head out for an exciting afternoon game drive.

From December to April, the massive herds of the Great Migration move directly onto these short-grass plains to feed. After a wonderful afternoon of tracking wildlife, your guide will drive you to your comfortable safari accommodation for a hot dinner and a peaceful night's sleep.

After a delicious, filling breakfast, you will spend the entire day exploring the incredible Ndutu region. Your guide will take you through many different natural areas, including green swamps, quiet woodlands, saltwater lakes, and the world-famous endless short-grass plains. Around January, you can witness the unbelievable calving season, where half a million baby wildebeests are born within just three weeks! Because the flat plains have no bushes to hide behind, these amazing babies can stand up just minutes after birth and run fast enough to keep up with the herd in only three days. After an unforgettable, full-day adventure watching thousands of animals move across the plains, you will return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 5: NDUTU TO NGORONGORO CRATER

After a fresh breakfast, you will leave the southern Serengeti and drive to the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater. When you first see the crater from the top, it looks like a hidden, forgotten world protected by steep volcanic walls. This beautiful wilderness was created millions of years ago when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed, leaving a massive bowl filled with flat grasslands, green forests, and shiny lakes.

Driving down the steep walls to the crater floor is a thrilling adventure, and you will quickly find yourself surrounded by thousands of zebras, wildebeests, antelopes, and over 500 species of birds. This unique place is also your absolute best chance to see the rare, endangered Black Rhino grazing in the open grass.

After a magical afternoon exploring the crater floor, you will drive to the nearby town of Karatu for dinner and a relaxing evening at your hotel.

As you explore the changing landscape of open plains, deep forests, and cliffs, you will see baboons, tall giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, and elephants. If you are lucky, you might even spot Manyara's famous tree-climbing lions resting high up on the tree branches.

After a lovely lunch inside the park, you will drive back to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon with beautiful memories of Africa's wild sights and sounds to keep with you forever.
